Veggie Corn Chowder Recipe

I have been known to stay up late at night reading a good book. I have, however, never had that happen before with a cookbook.

What? Weird, I know, right? But it’s true.

Years ago as I was still trying to figure how to do this whole Real Food thing, I stumbled across a blog called 100 Days of Real Food. In it, Lisa Leake tells about her and her family’s experience switching to Real Food. I use her recipes all the time, and I was so excited when I found out that she was writing a cookbook!

But really, you can’t really call this book just a cookbook. Yes, there are over 100 recipes inside, but there is so much more! The first half of the book is basically Real Food 101, giving you absolutely everything you need to know to banish processed food for good. She also basically smashes any excuse you may have for not switching to Real Food. Worried that you don’t know how to read labels or know what is ok to buy? Well, you do now! Afraid your kids will starve because they won’t eat this weird new food? There’s a chapter for that. Worried that you won’t know what meals to make? Just grab one of her easy meal plans. Don’t know where to buy Real Food? She lays it right out for you. And I could go on and on!

I got this book on Tuesday and did a little happy dance around the living room with it. It’s pretty ridiculous to get so excited about a cookbook, but this is one that I have been excited about since she announced it. And that night we tried our first recipe, Veggie Corn Chowder.

What I love about Lisa’s recipes is that they are all so simple! If you aren’t a great cook, it doesn’t matter. Don’t have a lot of time? No sweat. She also doesn’t use a lot of crazy ingredients. I was able to throw together this soup with what I already had in the kitchen. And the best part is that everyone loved it!

Another thing I loved about this cookbook? Check out the picture opposite the Table of Contents of Lisa and her hubby. Aaawwww!!! Cutest picture ever! Love it.

This year I have a first grader, so we have entered the realm of school lunches. I have never liked the idea of my daughter eating school lunch, both because of our Real Food lifestyle, but also because of my daughter’s life-threatening food allergies. The cookbook has a huge section giving you tons of information and ideas for packing school lunches. Perfect timing! Just this information alone is worth buying the book for me. (P.S. And speaking of food allergies, in the back of the book she even has a section listing the recipes by dietary needs, like gluten-free, vegetarian, freezer-friendly, etc.

100 Days of Real Food cookbook

Basically, I knew I would love this book, but I can already tell you after only two days of ownership that it is even better than I expected!

In other words, go buy the book! You will love it, and you will improve the health of your family so much!

  1. I am a food blogger so I tend to make a lot of real food but I would have to say that my biggest obstacle is making myself lunch! I never blog about lunch recipes 🙂
