Where to start with the Tracy Anderson Method

Where to start with the Tracy Anderson Method

I love that lady, and I love this quote! (That’s my hero, Tracy Anderson, in case you were wondering.)

This past week I got a question, “I am toying with the idea of trying a Tracy Anderson exercise DVD. If I do, what would you recommend that I start with?”

This is a great question, and one that I have gotten often enough that I decided to turn my answer into a whole post for you today.

Ok, so here’s the rundown. You have tons and tons of options! One thing I love about Tracy and her Method is that you can play along no matter what your price point is. A membership to one of her gyms is more than my mortgage payment, and she has a roster of celebrity clients, so she definitely caters to the high end, but she also has lots of great content available for anyone!

She has several DVDs on Amazon that are fairly inexpensive, I’ve seen them as low as $6 and as high as $30. You can buy most of the same titles through the instant video option so you can start right away and not have to wait for a DVD to be delivered. This one is a great start:

This is another great one that is new:

The nice thing about that one is that it is in 10 minute chunks, so you just do what you have time for.

The one that I started with years ago was her really super intense 90 day program called Metamorphosis. One thing that Tracy really pushes is that she wants you doing dance cardio and the muscle work in the same day, so with Meta you get 1/2 hour of dance cardio and 1/2 hour of muscle work each day. She wants you do to this 6 days a week, and I can tell you that that is what I did religiously for the entire 90 days. I was a rockstar! And of course, I saw super incredible results.

Which of her DVDs have you tried? What did you think? If you haven’t tried Tracy Anderson yet, what is your favorite way to move?

  1. I haven’t worked out in a very long time, at least 6 months, and want to start the TA Method. Do you recommend I start with her Beginners dvd or can I start with the Meta? I have 50-60 pounds to lose.

    1. Super great question! When I started TA, I had 70 pounds to lose, but I had been exercising about 5 times a week for many years. If you have been doing something else, it would work to dive right into meta. It’s hard, that’s for sure, but that’s where I started at that point and I had great results. If you haven’t been doing anything at all, then I would suggest the Beginners DVD, working your way up to meta as soon as you can. Whichever one you decide to do, let me know and keep me updated! I’d love to know how it goes for you.

      1. So I rented her beginner DVD on Amazon and didn’t feel like I was dying when it was over. I have Meta on its way and I have started tracking my food again with Noom. I have flunked out of WW more times than I can count but knew I needed something to keep me accountable. I hope to see some progress soon!

    2. I have the Dance +Cardio Dvd of Tracy Anderson. My goal now is to see results flat abs specifically. So my question is should i stick to the one i currently have the DVD stick to it which I haven’t had time to work on or should I go for the beginners Dvd or metamorphosis is it necessary? if I want to see immediate results

      1. First, immediate results are awesome, but I suggest going for long term results first. I went for immediate results for a lot of years and if I did manage to lose weight, it would come back right away. That being said, your best and quickest results will probably come from metamorphosis, and especially from being very consistent with doing both the dance cardio and the MS work. I got fantastic results doing it 6 times a week all the way through metamorphosis. It was truly life changing! I hope that helps!

        1. For the Metamorphosis will the one that comes with 1 Dvd be enough or will I need the more than 1 Dvd to see results? And how one manage to maintain a flat stomach. Does this mean or involve?
you have to eat those pricey foods what the celebrities eat? Do you think if I eat out and excercise I can mnage to have flat abs? So for how long should I do the MS weeks perhaps? First alone And then add the Dance+cardio I assume? Honestly, I want abs like Gwyneth Paltrow I wonder how does she maintain flat abs on a busy schedule.
          Thanks.

  2. Hi! I am not sure if I would be Abcentric or Omnicentric.. I went to site, but just not sure.. any suggestions?

    1. I think you are the one that reached out to me on Instagram, but just in case, Tracy actually has a team to help with this! I believe that the email address to contact is support@tracyanderson.com, or you should be able to send a DM to @tracyandersononlinestudio on Instagram to get some help with this. I hope this helps!

  3. Hi, I just started Meta Abcentric, a friend gave me the DVD (without the nutrition). I workout but this is still very hard. What should be completed first: the Dance Cardio or the Mat work? Also, what is the nutrition? Can I find it on YouTube or buy it separately? Should I just buy this DVD set new?

    1. Welcome to Meta! It’s going to give you amazing results! The cardio vs mat first is a long-time debate in the Tracy Anderson community, and the answer is that it mostly doesn’t matter as long as you are doing both. If you are looking to lose weight, mat first is going to serve you a little bit better, and if you are more looking to tone your muscles, then cardio first is a little better. But again, you really can’t do it wrong! The meal plan that came with it is actually super restrictive and isn’t one that she recommends any more. Instead, she recommends eating a very clean diet; no processed foods, lots and lots of veggies and fruits, healthy proteins and fats. I hope that helps!
