How do you feel about change?
Odds are (unless the change is that you were given a shiny new car or won the lottery) it probably makes you a little uncomfortable. For example, getting a new position at work might be exciting, yet leaving a job you could do with your eyes closed for something you have to fumble through can be less than fun. Make sense?
Most people aren’t big fans.
You could say we avoid it. Even those times that you think the change would be welcome like when you have some extra pounds you would love to get rid of, you will probably meet some resistance within yourself. During my decade of obesity, I ran into this a lot! I would try a program like Weight Watchers, have some success up front, and then something would get in the way to sabotage me. Looking back, I can recognize a lot of self-sabotage and damaging thought patterns.
It’s really hard to get rid of old habits!
The way I thought of myself and my habits were really holding me back! I used to think of myself as that girl who could and would eat anything and everything, usually with second helpings. I didn’t like to waste food (still don’t, those bad habits really do die hard!), so I would finish what was left on the plates of my husband and kids. I desperately wanted to be thinner and healthier, but I wanted to continue eating way too much of the processed junk I was used to.
But the truth is, if you want something to change, you have to change something.
It seems obvious, right? But how many of us actually commit to making the change? We keep ordering pizza twice a week and forgetting to eat our vegetables. We keep eating gigantic portions, even though we know we don’t need that much food. We move forward without a plan, we never even decide to actually make a plan! Even one little change can start us on the path to real change, so what if we each decided on one thing to change, even just a little thing?
What is one little change you can make in your life? Please let me know!
